Art glass is one of the most striking phenomena in the decorative art of Ukraine. A combination of ancient traditions and modern technology allows to create a work of the highest quality which meets the European requirements and satisfies the severe tastes of connoisseurs and collectors.
Art glass is the works from hot mass made by special technology near the glass-melting furnace. The tradition of art glass arose in III-IV century. At that time stained glass and smalt were melted in small workshops for the well-known Old Russian mosaics. In the middle of XVII century these workshops developed rapidly and a part of local production was exported to Moscow and to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was the time of art glass flourishing.
Today the art glass is also in great request. Glassworks cooperate closely with the Lvov National Academy of Arts. The rector of the academy is Andrej Bokotej. For over 30 years his works are successfully exhibited in prestigious museums and galleries around the world.
There are great art glass artists in Ukraine such as Bokotej, Dzindra, Matsiewskij, Kurilo, Gogol,Ginsburg, Belous, Dudin, Kadochnikov, Zaitseva, Chernenko, Kerechan. The works of these artists are the main in the exhibition.
